Project
Steel Pile Flood Defence Scheme at Brough

Description

We were asked to form a permanent wall of sheet piles to help with the Flood Defence Scheme. The site was located within an environmentally sensitive area, on one side of the flood bund was the shoreline and on the other was a drainage ditch which may have contained water voles, which are a protected species. The site was also close to BAE Systems, where we needed to be able to stop work at a moments notice to allow aircraft to land/takeoff on the adjacent airfield.

Description of works

Approximately 736 nr PU8R grade S355 GP permanent sheet piles, 8.5 metres long were installed to form a section of the new Flood Defence approximately 440 metres long. These were initially to be installed using a Movax SP50F Vibro and 25T Excavator. Due to driving difficulties/ground conditions encountered (ie not as stipulated on the borehole log) on site we needed to upgrade the machinery to our SPH75 and 38T Excavator
