Unguided Auger Boring

To ensure future supplies and improve the security of potable water supply, Anglian Water Services commissioned a 41km long pipeline scheme to transfer water from Empingham to Hannington. The vast majority of the pipeline was installed using traditional open cut techniques however, where the pipeline route crossed critical existing features trenchless technology was used to avoid disruption to road and rail services.

Our Client J N Bentley Ltd employed us to undertake the specialist crossing works:

  • 4No DN1200 blind auger raod crossing, lengths from 24m to 54m
  • 1No 38m Long x DN1200 backacter rail crossing

All thrust and reception cofferdams for the crossings, Welding, installation and hydrostatic testing of the permanent steel pipeline through all the crossings.

Ground Conditions

Firm to stiff alluvial clay with cobbles and boulders
