We operate within a formal Training Policy and initially achieved the IIP standard in 2004. In 2010 we successfully maintained our IIP status and are committed to continual improvement through our people. We have an experienced core of operatives and staff and whilst we will always try to recruit locally, our aim is also to have the best people, who are most suitably qualified or experienced for a particular project, regardless of their background.

The majority of our training budget is spent on construction based training to ensure the health, safety and welfare of our employees e.g. confined spaces, first aid at work, abrasive wheels, on obtaining NVQs and CSCS / CPCS cards; and on training to comply with the legislative requirements and industry standards e.g. New Roads and Street Works, Appointed Persons for Lifting Operations, EUSR Utility, CITB Construction Skills, Electrical Contractors ECS1 H&S Assessment, Welder Training and Development etc.

The HR Department maintains a computer based database and matrices system of employee qualifications and training. We consider this to be company confidential and subject to Data Protection Legislation. However, this database can be viewed by Clients upon request. Over and above this, on contract award Clients are provided with the training and qualifications of all employees to be involved on a given project, including copies of all certificates. We have also devised an Access database encompassing a reminder system for the renewal of certificates and further training.

Training is provided in-house and through external training providers. In particular, staff are kept abreast of changes via tool box talks, manufacturers' training, workshops and updates, internal training and continuing professional development.

Nearly all our agents and supervisors have been put through either the CITB 5 day site managers safety training scheme or the 2 day CITB site supervisors course. Additionally, our Contracts' Directors and our Contracts Managers are all First Aiders.
