Saltscape Project Needed Our Help!

Saltscape Project - Cob Oven Building!

Eddie Saunt, Site Manager on the A559 Chester Way contract in Northwich received a call from Saul Burton, Project Officer for the charity Groundwork Cheshire, Lancashire & Merseyside who are the lead body for the Saltscape Project.  Saltscape is a Heritage Lottery Funded Landscape Partnership Scheme designed to conserve, enhance and promote the landscape in Cheshire that has been shaped by salt.  (More information on Saltscape can be found here).

This year the charity is offering people the chance to visit the Cheshire Scouts facility at Forest Camp in Sandiway over the weekend of the 23rd & 24th April to learn how to build a "cob oven".

Eddie received the call from Saul who had tried a number of housing developments in the area to see if any could provide clay/subsoil in order to build the cob oven.  Unfortunately, all that was available was sand/aggregate........that was until Saul spoke to Eddie!  Eddie and his men were only too happy to help out where they could and made all the necessary arrangements for the materials to be delivered to site.

When complete not only will the oven be used by Scout Groups across the County, but they are also looking to make better use of the site and attract more school groups across the area.  This will hopefully be a great addition to the facilities there and benefit many children from across the area.

Good Luck to the Saltscape Project!!
