It’s a busy time at Trenchless Solutions with 5 live tunnelling contracts currently underway. The geographic spread of the current contracts ranges from Hamilton, Scotland to the Isle of Grain, Kent, with a varying range of our specialist tunnelling plant being actively employed.



The small village of Ferniegair, just to the south of Hamilton, is currently hosting our newly purchased DN1200 backacter shield which will cross below the M74 to facilitate the completion of a 5km gravity outfall pipe from the recently completed Ferniegair WwTW constructed by the GMJV on behalf of Scottish Water Solutions.



Moving southwards our contract with Morgan Est is underway to construct 107m of DN600 gravity sewer in Stockport as part of the United Utilities upgrade of the local sewerage network. Our Iseki Unclemole along with one of our excellent teams of experienced personnel is performing well and beating anticipated production rates.



The massive Thames Water Utilities Ltd asset Mogden WwTW near Twickenham, is the location of our multi-discipline contract currently underway which forms part of the large scale upgrade of the existing works. Through our Client Biwater Treatment Ltd, we are constructing a range of assets ranging from segmental pumping stations, opencut gravity pipework and manholes, sheet piled cofferdams, DN1500 pipe jacks both by hand and with our Akkerman drum digger in addition to muck shifting and final landscaping operations.



A large scale multi story residential development, located on the Isle of Dogs, commissioned by O’Shea necessitates the off line replacement of 240m of DN1500 sewer to facilitate the footprint of the new building. Our Client J. Browne Construction have employed us to undertake the specialist slurry tunnelling works using our 1500 Herrenknecht AVN machine. The works will be constructed from a centrally located thrust pit in a busy residential area with drive lengths of 100m and 140m.



Finally to our Isle of Grain Site in Kent, as part of the E-on upgrade of the Isle of Grain power station new CHP pipes will be installed, these pipes pass below the existing B2001 road and the Cryogenic pipeline which is of strategic national importance. To provide sleeves below these surface features, through which the CHP pipes will pass, as specialist contractors to Stockton Drilling Ltd, we will construct 4No DN2000 tunnels with lengths up to 144m using our Herrenknecht AVN machine in conjunction with GRP jacking pipes supplied by Hobas.
