A new £600,000 slip road onto St Peter's Way/A666 Bolton was opened by the Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Barbara Ronson. She cut the ribbon to officially open the road before riding in the Mayoral Car WH1 which became the first vehicle to use the slip road.
The slip road gives motorists additional access to the A666 from the north of Bolton and direct traffic travelling to the south of Bolton away from the town centre and is also designed to relieve congestion at the Turton Street/A666 junction.
Bolton Council's Executive Member for Environmental Services Councillor, Nick Peel, said:
"The opening of the new slip road represents a major milestone in the completion of the first phase of the implementation of the Town Centre Transport Strategy. It demonstrates the Council’s determination to bring about transport improvements as part of a co-ordinated long term strategy, which has been designed to keep pace with our development aspirations for a 21st century town centre."
Works carried out by A E Yates included the re-configuration of the town centre streets with the upgrading of four signalized junctions and the construction of the new slip road onto the A666 St. Peter's Way.
